Most of the trees we take down on the Central Coast can't be felled in one drop. The block is too tight, the house is too close, or there's a line running through the outer canopy. So we climb them and work from the top down, lowering each limb on rope so nothing hits the ground hard. The crew walks the block first, checking the lean, the wind exposure off Brisbane Water, the drop zone and where the rigging anchors will sit before a saw touches the tree.

Sandy coastal soils shift more than most, which matters when a mature spotted gum or angophora has been pushing roots sideways for thirty years. On the steeper ridge blocks above Gosford and Woy Woy we often need to plan an alternative access route, craning material over the roofline, hand-balling sections down a narrow path, or setting the chipper out at the street and barrowing green waste through. The plan comes out of the site visit, not the phone call.

Once the canopy and trunk are down, we chip small material on site, cut heavier wood into rounds and rake or blow the area clean before we go. Stump grinding is its own line item on the quote, include it if you want the area ready to repave or returf, leave it off if you don't mind the stump staying. If you're doing both on the same day, combining the visit keeps the overall cost lower than two separate callouts.

What's included

  • Site walk covering access, drop zone and rigging anchor points
  • Climber and groundie crew, or EWP where canopy height and access allow
  • Top-down sectional removal, limbs roped and lowered on controlled lines
  • On-site chipping of small material and prunings
  • Heavier trunk wood cut into rounds, stacked or hauled on request
  • Optional below-grade stump grinding as a separate line item
  • Yard raked, path and driveway blown clean before we leave
  • Public liability Certificate of Currency available on request

When you might need this

  • A backyard gum has outgrown the block and shades the house year round
  • Roots are lifting pavers, pool surrounds or a driveway slab
  • Storm damage has split or cracked the trunk and it now leans
  • The tree is too close to a power line for safe clearance
  • Constant bark and leaf drop is blocking gutters and staining the roof
  • Central Coast Council has signed off a removal permit and you're ready to go
  • A renovation or extension needs the footprint cleared before work starts

Tree Removal FAQs

What does tree removal typically cost on the Central Coast?

A small backyard tree under six metres with flat access and no rigging usually sits around $300 to $600. A medium spotted gum or angophora on a standard block runs $800 to $1,800. Anything over twelve metres, leaning over a structure, or near power lines is $2,000 and up depending on rigging and whether an EWP is needed.

Can the crew get through a tight side gate?

Usually yes. Our walk-behind stump grinder and small chipper clear a 900mm gate, which handles nearly every older Gosford, Woy Woy or Long Jetty block we work on. If it's narrower we walk it on the quote visit and find an alternative, craning over the roofline or routing material through the street with the neighbour's permission.

What happens to the wood once the tree is on the ground?

Small branches and prunings go through the chipper on site. You can keep the chips as mulch, leave them in a pile, or pay a haulage line to truck them out. Larger trunk sections, particularly spotted gum and blackbutt, are cut into rounds and stacked along the fence for firewood if you'd like them kept.

Can you work on trees close to power lines?

Anything inside the regulated clearance zone around a live span has to be made safe by the distributor before we climb. Ring Ausgrid on 13 13 88 and they will isolate the section of network. Once the lines are de-energised we can go in and section the tree. We plan the timing around the power-off window so the outage is as short as possible.
